STREET STYLE PHOTOGRAPHY

PLACE OF SURVEY

My group’s place for street photography was Dalston Junction, which is located in East London, in the London Borough of Hackney. According to HCD Hackney Co-operative Developments (2019), Hackney is a very diverse borough. That is the reason why on the street we were able to see many different styles and trends.

MAIN TRENDS ON THE STREET FOR AUTUMN/WINTER 2019/20

After the results of our survey, we noticed that most young people have a similar opinion when it comes to shopping. Each person, which we asked, answered that they prefer to shop in Vintage shops at High Street or Brick Lane because mostly they do not have enough money to afford luxury brands. Also, online shopping and charity shops were one of the most common answers.
Therefore, it was easy to notice that their style was vintage, mostly they described it as comfortable. Our participants also said that their manner of dressing depends on their mood. Sometimes they like to be rocky, creative or just cosy, but in general, they use fashion as a way of expressing themselves.

When it comes to trends, they could not define their favourite trend very precisely, but in overall, they said that sustainable fashion is one of the hottest trends nowadays. Moreover, I noticed that 4 out of 8 our participants had Dr Martens shoes and 3 of them had a long coat as well. Therefore, I think these two garments will be one of the most popular trends in season Autumn/Winter 2019/20.

WHAT I LEARNT FROM THIS TASK

To conclude, I think that surveys and street photography in a specific place are very developing because it made me realize that many young people have similar world views and that all young generation is considered about sustainability in fashion.
